The challenge

Journaling, without the blank page.

Most journaling apps ask too much: a blank page, a streak to protect, a feed of other people's reflections. Today asks one question a day, and nothing else.

The whole ritual takes about two minutes. A photo card with the date and the question, a free answer, a tag for how the day felt, and a skip button that never makes you feel guilty. Every answer becomes a coloured dot in a Journey timeline, and Looking back resurfaces one from a week, six months or a year ago.

Privacy shaped every decision: Face ID lock, iCloud sync with no accounts, no ads, no AI reading the entries, and a widget that only ever shows the question. Designed, written and built end to end: the brand, the 413 questions, the iOS app and the website.

01 / The experience

Two quiet minutes.

Today guides you through one small, intentional loop: a single question, a quiet place to write, and a personal archive you can look back on.

  1. The Today question card for October 6 over a mountain photograph: What's a lesson today tried to teach you?
Read a question. A new, thoughtful question every day to help you reflect.
  2. Writing an answer in Today: the question, five mood tones and an empty text field
Write at your pace. A calm, focused space to collect your thoughts.
  3. The Today Journey screen: a Looking back card, 30 answers, 30 days in a row, and a mood mix
Look back over time. Your answers become a colourful timeline of who you've been.

02 / The design

Warm by design.

Today's visual identity is calm, warm and minimal: natural tones and clean typography, so every detail, from the icon to the interface, feels approachable, focused and timeless.

03 / Beyond the app

A small moment on your home screen.

Today also lives on the home screen, with a set of widgets that bring the day's question to wherever you are.

  • The Cream widget: the day's question on an ivory card Cream
  • The Ember widget: the day's question on a warm peach gradient Ember
  • The Dusk widget: the day's question in cream on deep indigo Dusk
  • The Orb widget: the day's question beside a soft peach orb Orb

One question at a time

Today is live on the App Store. Thoughtfully written questions rotate through the year, so a daily reader never sees the same one twice, and every part of it, from the wordmark to the widget, came from one desk.

  • 413 Questions rotated through the year, never repeated within it
  • 5 Mood tones every answer becomes a coloured dot in the Journey
  • 0 Accounts no feeds, no ads, no AI reading your words

Enough about me.
